As our Head of Tax, you are responsible for all tax matter of ARLANXEO USA and common tax platforms for the North American legal entities.
In this role you serve as the lead tax adviser on new business initiatives, transactions, and strategic changes. Oversees tax aspects of financial reporting, tax planning and special projects, tax compliance, tax support of operations and tax audits. You efficiently utilizes external and internal resources to meet department objectives while developing and retaining tax staff. Next to this you supports the Global Head of Tax located in Europe and directly report to the CFO of North America. In this role you have two direct reports.
The Head of Tax will be based at our Pittsburgh Corporate office.
YOUR KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tax Advisory
- Provide guidance on the tax consequences of domestic and cross-border transactions and activities
- Advise management on the tax consequences of tax law changes
- Research new and oversee existing federal and state tax benefits and incentives
- Support and improve tax reporting and compliance processes
- Review and provide comments on the tax sections of external agreements including vendor contracts
- Plan, direct and coordinate special tax projects
Income Tax Compliance
- Manage preparation and timely filing of federal and over 20 state income tax returns
- Oversee preparation & filing of annual extensions and quarterly estimated tax payments for federal and state income and franchise taxes
- Ensure complete and accurate measurement of tax-basis fixed assets in accordance with federal and state laws and routinely validate federal and state tax depreciation calculations
- Maintain responsibility for international compliance requirements
Indirect Tax
- Review and approve monthly domestic sales and use tax return filings and related payment requests
- Oversee monthly Canadian HST and QST compliance activities
- Coordinate and review monthly reconciliation of domestic use tax accrual
- Assist with calculating Superfund tax liability under IRC Sec. 4661 and 4671
- Prepare and/or review quarterly excise tax filings on Forms 720 and 6627
- Provide guidance on Superfund tax exemptions/waivers
Tax Provision
- Manage timely & accurate monthly income tax provisions & partner with Corporate Accounting to ensure quarterly and year-end compliance
- Closely monitor federal and state NOL’s for proper tax accounting treatment and perform routine testing to determine whether Valuation Allowances are required to be recorded
- Maintain quality control for OneSource Tax Provision (OTP) software including configurations for trial balances, tax rates, apportionment, tax adjustments, journal entries, accruals and deferred tax balances
- Manage deliverables for monthly and quarterly tax reporting in BPC system and non-system Aramco tax sheets
- Compute, track and manage all deferred tax assets and liabilities for Balance Sheet reporting in accordance with International Accounting Standard (IAS) 12
- Provide detail review for monthly preparation and maintenance of all tax account reconciliations
- Oversee annual return-to-provision (RTP) process including calculations and processing of all OneSource inputs and outputs
- Determine the proper IAS 12 tax accounting treatment for complex or unusual transactions
Tax Technology
- Administer system design changes and configuration updates for OneSource indirect tax platform (OITS) utilized by ARLANXEO USA LLC and ARLANXEO Canada Inc
- Maintain quality control for OneSource Tax Provision (OTP) software including configurations for trial balances, tax rates, apportionment, tax adjustments, journal entries, accruals and deferred tax balances
- Provide quality assurance for OneSource Income Tax (OIT) return preparation software to ensure proper configuration of master data, tax adjustments, apportionment, electronic filing requirements, etc.
- Ensure proper configuration and maintenance of Bloomberg BNA Fixed Assets software utilized to account for federal and state tax basis fixed assets and depreciation
- Serve in Approver role for SAP system Master Data management through review and validation of new vendor setup
Transfer Pricing
- Review and oversee the preparation of annual transfer pricing reports for the intercompany transactions of Arlanxeo USA
- Prepare and review intercompany agreements
- Prepare and review calculations to document that intercompany transactions are within the interquartile range
- Review global tax compliance policies that affect US operations

WHO YOU ARE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other financial discipline
- Advanced degree in taxation (MBA or MS) and/or professional designation (CPA, CMA, etc.)
- 10+ years’ experience
- Experience in international tax topics required; Prior experience with international manufacturing companies a plus
- Must have a demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a team-based environment
- Highly motivated tax manager with progressively increased level of responsibility, ideally with manufacturing companies and/or large multinationals
- Extensive understanding of corporate tax returns and advising on tax implications
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication and presentation skills
- In-depth knowledge of internal accounting policies, IFRS, procedures and specific accounting norms & local tax environment
- Experience with tax software such as OneSource and BNA Fixed Assets
- Exceptional time management, organizational and project management skills
- Advanced analytical, strategic and conceptual thinking skills
- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills
